    abuser’s/sex offender’s pathologies

Exploring the Physical Abuser & Sexual Offender
Typologies
  • Identify male & female abuser typologies
  • Identify male sex offender typologies, including a
    law enforcement profiling typology
  • Identify female sex offender typologies
  • Identify specifics related to the psychopath and
    offenders who use drugs to facilitate sexual
    offenses
  • Identify characteristics of the juvenile sex
    offender
  • Examine how abusers & sex offenders think and
    behave

Examining the Role of Alcohol in Physical Abuse
& Sexual Offenses
  • Examine the effects of alcohol use on the
    abusers and sex offender’s behavior and
    thought process
  • Examine common myths about the role of
    alcohol in violent offenses
  • Discuss the role alcohol actually plays in
    offenses

Exploring the Relationship between Pornography
& the Sexual Offender & Physical Abuser
  • Examine the role of pornography in abuse and
    sex offenses

    help to demonstrate the powerful impact
    pornography has on reinforcing abuse and
    sexual offense patterns of thinking and behavior.
  • Examine how the abuser’s/sex offender’s use of

Investigation, Assessment, & Treatment of the
Physical Abuser & Sexual Offender
  • Examine assessment and investigation issues
    and concerns
  • Discuss how to gather sufficient and vital
    information
  • Discuss a recommended assessment outline
  • Discuss risk concerns
  • Discuss treatment concerns
  • Discuss victim concerns

Detecting Truth From Deception
  • Identify common statements and behaviors
    abusers & sex offenders display indicative of
    deceit
  • Examine strategies for countering defenses
    and resistance
  • Examine how to incorporate the abuser’s and
    sex offender’s statements into a forensic
    report or confession

Effective Interviewing Strategies
  • Examine strategies to effectively interview sex
    offenders, including juvenile and adult male
    and female offenders
  • Identify how to interview the victim and
    address special issues related to victim
    interviews and statements
  • Identify strategies for gathering sufficient and
    vital information

Understanding the Psychopathic Personality
  • Examining the characteristics of the
    psychopathic offender
  • Discuss how to deal with psychopathic
    offenders

Profiling Strategies
  • Examine the steps necessary to prepare a
    profile
  • Identify important questions to ask about the
    crime and offender to help develop the profile
  • Examine selfish and unselfish offender
    characteristics

Case Discussion
  • Several cases will be discussed to highlight
    and apply the various typologies and
    investigative strategies.
This training qualifies for 14 clock hours as required
by many national, state and local licensing boards and
professional organizations.

This course has been approved for 14 CEU hours by
the Minnesota POST Board and the Department of
Criminal Justice Services (DCJS-Virginia).
